Many women who survive breast cancer suffer the symptoms of vagina atrophy – dry, itchy, burning urination, pain with intercourse and either cannot or do not want to use oestrogen supplementation to manage the problem. Unfortunately use of Tamoxifen frequently brings on these issues for women as its action is to block the action of oestrogen.
In 2016 another study was published on using MonaLisa Touch as a treatment for vaginal atrophy causing painful intercourse in breast cancer survivors. They treated 50 women with an average age of 53. All had their vaginal atrophy caused by their treatment for breast cancer. The women underwent 3 MonaLisa Touch treatments spaced at 1 month apart and were found to be significantly improved. 52% were still satisfied at 11 months followup (generally pretreatment is recommended from 1 year after treatment. This matches up with our own experience with breast and ovarian cancer patients and how helpful MonaLisa Touch can be for them. MonaLisa Touch offers a non hormonal treatment with very little risk. The tiny laser beams are 0.2 mm across and penetrate less than 1 mm. But they are able to stimulate the body to rejuvenate a youthful, moist lining like in health young women.
